Hi guys/girls. I figure my question I asked wasn’t being seen where it was recently posted. So I though I’d make a specific thread.
Have any pilots running for the MEC positions applied to other airlines/cargo companies?
So far Dave McHugh, Darren Acri and Matt Rogers have said no.

Re: Question for those running for positions
Thanks for asking jjagoe it's funny you ask.
Nope. Haven't... Barrett Armann kept promising us he was going to get us our jobs back. That didn't work out...
I'm a lifer anyways.
But it's an important question on a broader scale.
What happens if recalls are slower and somebody like Michelle Chiasson -seniority #250 - doesn't get recalled for 1.5 years? What happens if a union rep does take a job at another airline? What happens if a MEC rep steps down mid-term due to another job?
Maybe only 100 guys are recalled next fall? Shouldn't somebody like McHugh who's been here for 15 years have the opportunity to represent himself if he wants and is willing?
Lot's of questions, lot's of uncertainty, nobody knows what things are going to look like coming out of this. It's going to be a rebuilding process and everyone should be able to participate and be represented.
I'm always reminded of CBA#1 back in 2010, where the guy who negotiated it, Frank Watts, left six months after the contract was signed.
Lot's of things to consider.

Re: Question for those running for positions
I sure hope any furloughed pilot has his resume out to other airlines that are hiring.
I personally don’t care if they have and don’t feel it’s anybody’s business. If they get a job somewhere else they’ll leave the union.
I’ve had to work delivering winter tires and stocking shelves at toys r us...You better bet I’d much rather be at Cargoet or Flair.

Re: Question for those running for positions
Wasn’t Nielsen saying how the current MEC has created a 60/40 split senior junior and that we should strive for unity?
Now he’s advocating for only those he deems “senior enough” to run for MEC?
If that doesn’t create a senior/junior split, I don’t know what will.
Maybe only seniority numbers 1-4 should be allowed to run for MEC positions to guarantee that active line pilots are represented by recalled MEC members.

Sincerest apologies if it came across that way. I was typing fast between jobs... I have a 15 minute break...Now he’s advocating for only those he deems “senior enough” to run for MEC?

I'm happy to amend that if it came across that way.
Your quote is actually the opposite of my point.
There needs to be a fair, balanced and diversified MEC across the entire seniority spectrum (as well as local elected LEC Reps). Whether it is Mat, Darren or McHugh doesn't matter they would all equally do a good job of representing their demographic and all pilots fairly and equally.
Sorry typing fast again, hope that was more clear.
Thanks

Re: Question for those running for positions
Thanks for answering my question Chris and editing out the other parts of your post that could be seen to be one-sided in terms of the seniority makeup of the MEC.
I agree with you that a diverse MEC is best for everyone (senior and junior, west coast and east, CAPT and F/O, etc). Hopefully we can get an LEC system set up that can more accurately reflect our diverse membership than being limited to the 4 of the MEC.

Re: Question for those running for positions
Seeing as I’m the example I guess I should chime in
The local can have it both ways a diverse MEC and LECs.
I believe my communications and the CBAs provide a fair amount of information with regards to representing the membership in its ENTIRETY . Myself and others have fought for everyone junior to senior. Most of the clauses I have mentioned recently didn’t even affect me or the others that negotiated the clauses into place.

Re: Question for those running for positions
Everyone has an opinion Chris. I could have left already if I wanted to. I’m still debating it. I don’t have an issue with someone trying to leave. I just don’t want them in the MEC. My opinion and prob lots others.
I’m assuming the answer is yes unless they say no.
Cheers
